Raymond “Chickey” Velez passed away unexpectedly from COVID-19 on May 1, 2020. Chickey was gracious, kind, and loving. He taught us to always be thankful for waking up in the morning and never take anything for granted; and to always love and respect others. He was always helping others and putting others before himself. We will miss hearing the whistling that drove us crazy and the 5 minute long goodbyes of him blessing everyone before he hung up the phone. Chickey served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing and building RC cars and boats. His greatest joys in life were his kids and grandkids. He will be deeply missed by all. He is survived by his sons; Joseph (Veronica) Velez of Tuckerton, NJ, David (Kristina) Velez of Staten Island NY, Raymond (Brittany) Velez of Roaming Shores, OH; and his daughter Kimberly Velez of Staten Island, NY. His grandchildren; Alanna(Courtney) Velez, Mariah Velez, Sabria Velez, Justin Velez, Alyssa Velez and Joshua Velez. His siblings Amado Velez (Barbara), Miriam Thompson (Ken), Carmen Rios, Jaime Velez, Joseph Velez (Dang) and Rosemary Velez-Cannella (Don). He is preceded in death by his parents Amado and Maria Velez, his sister Iris Velez-Ramos and brothers Reggie Velez and Frankie Velez.
